2–4 years of experience
Software developer resume example
Hiring teams for developer roles skim for three things: the stack you've shipped with, the scale or impact of what you built, and proof you can work in a real codebase — reviews, tests, deployments. This example shows how to make each of those visible in one page.
Sample resume: the person, employers and figures are illustrative.
Software Developer resume summary examples
Fresher
Computer science graduate with internship experience building REST APIs in Node.js and a React front end. Built a full-stack expense tracker used by 200+ students, with JWT auth and PostgreSQL. Comfortable with Git workflows, code reviews and writing unit tests.
2–4 years
Software developer with 3 years shipping backend services in Java and Spring Boot. Owns services end to end — design, tests, deployment and on-call — and has cut API latency by 35% through caching and query work.
Senior
Senior software engineer with 8 years designing distributed systems in Java and Go. Led the move of a payments monolith to 12 services with zero-downtime releases, and mentors a team of 5 engineers on design reviews and testing.
Weak vs strong bullet points
The same work, written to show the result instead of the duty.
Worked on backend APIs for the payments team.
Built 6 REST APIs in Spring Boot for merchant payouts, now handling 2M+ requests a day.
Names the stack, what you built, and the scale.
Responsible for improving performance.
Cut p95 latency from 820 ms to 530 ms by adding Redis caching and fixing N+1 queries.
A measurable before-and-after and the technique used.
Wrote tests.
Raised test coverage from 54% to 82% with JUnit and Testcontainers, catching 3 regressions before release.
Shows quality ownership with numbers, not just a duty.
Helped with the migration to microservices.
Split the billing monolith into 4 services on Kubernetes, enabling independent weekly releases.
Replaces 'helped' with your actual contribution and its outcome.

ATS keywords Software Developer job posts often use
Use the ones that are true for you, in the exact wording of the job description you're applying to.
Tips for a Software Developer resume
Lead with your stack
Put a Skills section near the top with languages, frameworks and tools grouped. Recruiters and ATS filters both match on exact technology names.
Quantify scale, speed or quality
Requests per day, users, latency, coverage, deployment frequency — one number per bullet makes the impact concrete.
Link your code
A GitHub profile with one or two well-documented projects is strong evidence, especially below 3 years of experience.
Mirror the job description's wording
If the post says 'RESTful services' and 'Kubernetes', use those exact terms where they're true for you — not a synonym.
Keep it to one page under 5 years
Cut coursework and old internships once you have full-time roles; keep the space for shipped work.
Frequently asked questions
Should a software developer resume have a projects section?
Yes if you have under 3 years of experience or the projects show skills your jobs don't. Link the repository and state what it does and how many people use it.
How many technologies should I list?
List the ones you could be interviewed on — usually 10 to 20, grouped by type. A long list of tools you've only touched dilutes the ones you know well.
Is a two-column template OK for developer roles?
Many ATS read single-column layouts most reliably. If you're applying through company portals, a single-column template like the one in this example is the safer choice.
