Data analyst resume example

A data analyst resume has to prove two things quickly: that you can get the data (SQL, Excel, Python) and that your analysis changed a decision. This example puts the tools up front and ties every bullet to a business result.

Sample resume: the person, employers and figures are illustrative.

Tips for a Data Analyst resume

Show the tool and the decision

Each bullet should say what you used (SQL, Power BI) and what changed because of it — a cost saved, a metric moved, a decision made.

Use the tool names job posts use

Write 'Power BI' and 'SQL', not just 'BI tools' or 'databases'. ATS keyword matching is literal.

Add a portfolio link

A GitHub or public dashboard link with one end-to-end project (question → data → finding) beats a list of courses.

Quantify data scale carefully

Rows, sources, users of your dashboard, hours saved — use real numbers you can explain in an interview.

Certifications help early on

PL-300 or the Google Data Analytics certificate are recognised signals when you have under 2 years of experience.

Frequently asked questions

Which skills matter most on a data analyst resume?

SQL appears in most analyst job posts, followed by Excel and one BI tool (Power BI or Tableau). Python is increasingly expected for mid-level roles.

Should I include certifications?

Yes, if they're recognised — for example Microsoft PL-300 or the Google Data Analytics certificate. Put them in their own section with the issue date.

How do I write a data analyst resume with no experience?

Lead with one or two complete projects on real public data, explain the question you answered and the result, and list the tools you used. See the fresher example for the structure.
